THE SINS WE INHERIT
Arvesynden

When a senior female judge in Oslo is found murdered, execution style, it instantly becomes front page news. How could something so brutal happen in Norway? The press suspects links to the mafia wars in Italy when they discover that the victim was working on an international trafficking case, but the police has other ideas. They bring in the dead woman’s husband, Judge Axel Hammer, for questioning because the killer is often close to the victim. What the police doesn’t know is that the victim had a secret past and that shortly before her death she had decided to come clean and put her demons
to rest …
Vera Cappelen is a single mother in her forties and a successful attorney in Oslo. Her teenaged daughter Camilla is studying in England, while Vera lives the single life characterized by hard work and a busy social life. When Axel Hammer asks Vera to become his defense attorney she only hesitates for a moment. But the case hides more secrets than Vera could have imagined and she soon finds herself on very thin ice when the investigation leads her to South Africa in the hunt or justice.
THE SINS WE INHERIT is a harrowing and suspenseful story about trafficking, about daring to bear witness - and of bitterly regretting it. It is also a story about a defense attorney who never gives up, despite the threats to her life becoming more invasive and disturbing, the closer she gets to the truth.
Will be published by Aschehoug in Norway in 2009
