MIAN LODALEN

THE FOOL'S DAUGHTER
Dårens dotter

An unforgettable novel about a girl whose father isn’t like anyone else.

Connie is about to turn 7. A girl who doesn’t have enough meat on her bones and too many tangles in her hair. She is growing up at her aunt’s place, part of the new public housing program in Jönköping. Her mother is dead and her obstinate father only shows up when it suits him.
Connie’s outsider status becomes even more evident at school. But little by little she finds a kindred spirit in Kalle, a boy her own age. Together they dodge the blows from the adult world, strike back at it and defiantly turn down an ever more dangerous road...
Without knowing it Connie begins to imitate her father. The exceptional Storyteller. The man who changes girlfriends more often than underwear. The Bohemian. The shop owner who freely speaks the gypsy language, Romani. The race car driver and jailbird. The man who pushes the limits just for the sake of doing so and gets half of Småland riled up by handing out free condoms at a nonconformist revivalist meeting.
Life is spinning at an ever faster pace for both of them. Dad’s madness escalates and Connie finally realizes that the only person she can count on is herself.

Mian Lodalen has written an unforgettable novel filled with both darkness and humor. It is about a child’s unconditional love for her father – and about how the world’s most entertaining father isn’t capable of taking responsibility, setting boundaries or protecting his daughter because of his self-interest.
But here there is also hope. Connie is a fighter who rises above and goes her own way.

SHAMELESS SISTERS OF THE CRUMB-CLUB
Smulklubbens skamlösa systrar

The constantly broke, free-lance writer My, writing chronicles in the magazine Queer Express, has stopped believing in Love with capital L. Instead she devotes her single life to picking up crumbs from other couple’s destroyed relationships. Together they do everything, from demonstrating and participating in television debates, to clubbing in London and going to upper class parties. Shameless sisters of the crumb-club is a wild, warm and funny novel about strong friendship, sex and love during one hectical year in Stockholm.

Shameless sisters of the crumb-club was published in 2003 and has sold more than 30 000 copies.

But My finds it difficult to live in an all too safe and cosy togetherness. She seeks new ways– who said that you can’t be three in a relationship? But what will happen to her and Bob’s love if a third person enters the scene? At the same time her friends Hedda and Mackan try to live as responsible adults and Hedda is planning to have a child. Will their friendship and sisterhood survive screaming babies and a grown-up way of life?

Triangle is a swift, warm and funny novel with lots of energy, that takes place in the gay world and where the author makes her readers question many norms in society of today.
